Hit this problem. I don't know how correct my solution is. After

    install -m644 etc/*.conf /etc/mplayer

issue

    install -v -d -m755 /usr/share/pixmaps    &&
    install -v    -m644 $SOURCEDIR/mplayer.xpm \
        /usr/share/pixmaps

where SOURCEDIR is the directory where the attached mplayer.xpm icon is saved, 
of course.
