This has been discussed here and the consensus was that BLFS will be a 'rolling release'. Due to the huge amount of packages, that does make some sense. Basically, take any snapshot of BLFS and go ahead and build it. On the other hand, not having stable releases from time to time can be frustrating. Me for example, I try to keep my BLFS system reasonably up-to-date since this is my production system. (Probably not a very good idea, I dunno.) That leads me to have to rebuild the whole system when an basic lib that is a dependency for a lot of other packages get's updated and some combination of versions of packages do not work together. (The recent update of libffi forced me to rebuild almost everything. I now keep old libs around in /opt/legacy to avoid that dependencies get pulled out from under other packages.) For me, a decision point when to rebuild my system would be a new major version of GNOME or Xorg. In BLFS, that is entirely up to you to decide.
