I just installed lxpanel 0.5.10 with:
CLFAGS="-lgmodule-2.0" ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc \
  
--with-plugins=netstatus,volume,volumealsa,cpu,deskno,batt,kbled,xkb,thermal,cpufreq,monitors
