Hi John, Some quick "compare notes" notes.
1. My latest is Version 25.0.1361.0 (173214): [/opt/chrome-173214]% ls -ogA -rwxr-xr-x 1 115922028 2012-12-14 19:56 chrome -rw-r--r-- 1 4816 2012-12-14 19:56 chrome.1 -rw-r--r-- 1 981004 2012-12-14 18:54 chrome_100_percent.pak -rw-r--r-- 1 4535393 2012-12-14 18:54 chrome.pak -rw-r--r-- 1 1445 2012-12-14 18:39 chrome_remote_desktop.pak -rw-r--r-- 1 37543 2012-12-14 18:34 content_resources.pak drwxr-xr-x 3 4096 2012-12-14 18:29 .deps drwx------ 2 4096 2012-12-14 20:27 extensions -rwxr-xr-x 1 2011476 2012-12-14 19:22 libffmpegsumo.so -rw-r--r-- 1 0 2012-12-14 19:22 linker.lock drwxr-xr-x 2 4096 2012-12-14 18:55 locales -rw-r--r-- 1 4984153 2012-12-14 19:03 resources.pak Above is a cut-to-the-bones list of useful files. When I first started downloading/compiling chrome I transferred files patiently piecemeal from 'out/Release/' only until chrome could start at all. At present the list may contain more files than strictly necessary (but probably not fewer). 2. I personally don't use nor do I feel a need for sandboxing. Their statement that "Currently the only finished implementation is for Windows" in not encouraging either. If anyone is in the habit of invoking programs from inside the browser, I suppose this adds an extra level of confidence. 3. Speaking of Windows, I think Linux is running far behind. I have the perverse habit of running chrome from inside an xterm, as reflected by my "issue" submission, 156369. That was a couple of months ago and version 24.0.1292.0 (161115). I get the same errors (and then some) now one day before the end of the world, so all hope is practically gone. Their comment, "This may go away for you in the near future once the MTP daemon is working and packaged with Google Chrome Linux" says everything (I think). Please note the weasel "may" above and the fact that I have only a few hours left where I _may_ be surprised with any (positive?) changes. Thank you for your valuable introduction to and comments on the subject, -- Alex -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
