Few months ago, someone talked about MariaDB on the mailing lists and if it should replace MySQL in BLFS. We agreed to wait and see what will other distributions do.
The situation is improving. I can count at least 4 distros that are either going to switch to MariaDB or have already made a switch. ArchLinux: https://www.archlinux.org/news/mariadb-replaces-mysql-in-repositories/ Fedora: http://www.zdnet.com/oracle-who-fedora-and-opensuse-will-replace-mysql-with-mariadb-7000010640/ OpenSUSE: http://www.muktware.com/5148/opensuse-dumps-mysql-makes-mariadb-default-database Slackware: http://slackware.com/index.html Since I have installed Archlinux on this machine, I don't see any difference between MySQL and MariaDB ... Should we follow others or still offer MySQL as the default database? I'd rather keep MySQL but support MariaDB, too. -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
