I have Bluefish-2.2.4 configured only with --prefix=/usr option
and linked against gtk+-3:
ldd /usr/bin/bluefish|grep -i gtk
libgtk-3.so.0 => /usr/lib/libgtk-3.so.0 (0x00007ff9234aa000)
Colors look fine. In Edit->Preferences->Font&Colors I have selected
the "Use System Wide Color Settings" option.
It may be a theme problem or a template file in ~/.bluefish/templates?

Thanks for the pointer. It was a theme-related thing. I set CLearlooks as the
default theme in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini, and now it looks a lot better!
