I've corrected the prob. it's now:

/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/opt/kde/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/opt/jdk/bin:/opt/qt/bin:/opt/qt/include/QtCore

I had the following in ~.bashrc '/opt/Adobe/Reader9/bin/acroread' which was
overriding the other PATHS - but why?

I know it should have been in ~.bash_profile or /etc/profile.

thanks Bruce
