If you use the latest Bash 4.3 patch level and Readline 6.3, you need Readline
6.3 patch level 8 installed. A person just can’t install Bash 4.3 with the
latest patch level 26 and expect it to build without updating Readline 6.3.

I downloaded the patch: readline-6.3-upstream_fixes-2.patch, and it says
that it contains patch numbers 001-006.
You mentioned that you need to install readline 6.3 patch level
8. Is there a newer patch that I need to use instead? I
got the readline-6.3-upstream_fixes-2.patch patch from the
linuxfromscratch website.
