So it was! I found the gstreamer-0.10.36 as-built binary tarball wasn't in the migration install onto the i7, but I couldn't figure out why not. I was just about to give up looking for the reason when I saw a sneaky little typo in the build script that caused it to fail quietly at the end just before backing it up.
