Your log doesn't include make install output. Are you certain it is
actually installed?
Thank you, that was the problem. A fundamental mistake, but my
attention was drawn to the uninstalled line generated by ./configure. I
wrongly assumed the problem lay prior to compiling libxml2. Live and learn.
