Yes, a hint from jimmy anderson <http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.lfs.hints/232> about "Build your own LFS livecd". I have already translated into brazilian portuguese. That hint uses thinks like squashfs4.2, busybox-1.20.2 and syslinux-4.06, among others, and kernel tweaks. I do not know yet if that is a solution for my needs. I want to build a basic LFS and have it always on my hand, even for a complete reinstalation on the same hardware. I am planing to format a machine and intend to reinstall the whole system with a little effort. I already have installed the system using ALFS e I declare it works fine. However, could it exist a even more simple method? That is the challenge, I suppose. > > Do you have space in /tmp or elsewhere, e.g. in /home, to create a > directory you could bind mount at /mnt/lfs to repeat binutils pass 1 > and try gcc pass 1 in the regular fashion to see if this problem is > specific to building in a loopback filesystem ? Yes, I have enough hard disk space. I could try this. I will try this and I will post the results. > I suspect that not many people use loopback - I vaguely remember I > have had problems with it in the past (burned an iso, then unable to > mount it to check the contents - but it booted fine).
