After installing wicd, It was refusing to hibernate. It could just be something with my setup. I don't know, but I fixed it by editing the wicd boot script:

for the case I changed:

start
to
start|thaw|resume

and
stop
to
stop|hibernate|suspend

I just thought I would share since it make my system work better.
