I've three boxes here on my table sharing a KVM switch, twin Conroes and a Via C7 MiniITX. Their BIOS' do *not* agree on video "front-porch" & "back-porch" parameters, and the screen does not automatically adjust. Consequently, when I have to use the C7, I lose the console's first column. I could'nt find anyplace to make adjustments in the kernel. It's OK in X, so I thought this time I could use the slim-1.3.6 display manager to boot directly to X. I can start slimd early in rc5.d, but there's still a long time waiting through a black screen as X starts--the C7 is a 1GHz Pentium-3 work-alike. (It's probably not longer than it'd take when I run startx, but it sure seems longer!) Are there any tips and tricks to make X start faster, or at least quickly throw up a copy of the background slimd would use?
Could a preloader like e4rat / e4rat-lite be a solution? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/e4rat Best regards Michael -- http://lists.linuxfromscratch.org/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
