I think it's simply overkill to require an LDAP server for my situation
with something like 10 users. I love the domain feature for the unified
login, I don't need anything else and for me this is nothing like
"crippled".
LFS always followed the paradigm of "only install the minimum". So for
now I'll stick to samba 4.5 as long as it is supported.
No, "only install the minimum" is a slight misconception. If that were
true, Gnome and KDE would be goners! :-) "Your distro, your rules"
allows for that interpretation, however. Short answer, if somebody tests
the patch and can verify normal functionality of simple shares (printing
would also be desirable if that's common for those two options), I'll
make it optional on the samba page in BLFS.
