I discovered a problen with recent version(s) of XOrg trying to set a simple solid background color. e.g.:
$ fbsetroot -solid black X Error of failed request: Bad Match (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 70 (XPolyFillRectangle) Serial number of failed request: 18 Current serial number in output stream: 19 $ xsetroot -solid black $ echo $? 0 $ I turned it in upstream just over a year ago, #1164, but like most it just sits there, as does v1.4.0, with very little indication that any development at all has been happening, or interest in same, for the last few years. I've started looking at at openbox, which also hasn't had a release in a couple years, but seems to be less abandoned. I get the impression that perhaps it's too "open", beyond the basics there's no "official" direction or outline how the features of a WM are to be done, just many contributed "accretions". I build xfce, but rarely use a full DE, just the bare fluxbox WM, eye-candy isn't really my "thing".
