thanks for your reply.
Just one additional remark: the regulatory database also needs an evironmental
variable COUNTRY
to select the appropriate settings for the country the machine is in.
As far as I can see, this variable doesn’t exist in LFS (but the error report
is anyway gone - I am wondering what country the kernel has chosen).
Initialising this variable can of course be done in a static way,
but the real challenge comes when one is travelling with a laptop through
several countries.
There were plans for automatic country discovery, but they failed to implement
them.

I was not aware that iw is now in SVN. I installed it on my own, without any
problem.
