Hmmmmmm, -C or something?  firefox --help....

Ken, there is another way out!  alias ff='firefox -P $xyzzy'  In your 
bash_profile query uname and find which system you're on, set xyzzy to be the 
appropriate for that system and make a separate profile for each particular 
system, and Bob' your Uncle.

And thanks.  I've never confuddled /home for exactly this reason--it's *got* to 
bite one in the nether regions sooner or later!  But if I ever needed to, now I 
know what to do.
