Well, it hasn't stopped the hangs (had another one while starting to
write an email) but it has solved a weird problem on this machine -
I'd copied old .bashrc, .xinitrc, .Xresources, .icewmrc and most
things on the desktop seem ok - but PS1 in urxvt was set to \s-\v\$
with 5.4 up to 5.4.5, and (oddly) with 5.3.11.
I'd tried exporting PS1 as \u@\h \w\$ in .bashrc but that made no
difference, so I dropped that. But now with 5.4.6 PS1 is working in
urxvt. Very weird, and only on this one machine.
