Thanks Ken (and Bruce),

The system is not supposed to be multilib.  I have tried to install
hplip which I believe to be the culprit.  (I just edited the Makefile
to change the reference from lib64 to lib.)  I'm not sure how some of
my libraries like geoclue-2.0 ended up there though.  As you suggest
perhaps once the directory was created, some of the scripts looked for
it and put their files there.  I have a list of the files and will
rebuild the libraries if needed.  I hope the system won't mind that I
moved the files and edited the pkg-config files by hand.  We'll see.

As you say I am enjoying learning. :)

P.S.  Please let me know if this is top posted.  I had never heard the
term and am trying to make sure I'm not breaking mailing list
etiquette. I am now removing the extra history that gmail puts in,
hoping that fixes the problem.
