They are for sending files to other people that are too large to send by
email, and yes they are free. I've often used them myself before I got my
own server.

Didn't know if anyone was familiar with this one, so I thought I'd pass it

At this time, the service appears to be free, with no registration, with a
file size limitation of 512mb.
The site appears to be screen-reader friendly, at least with Jaws.
Ididn't need the Jaws cursor until I wanted to check the progress of the
upload.
