Hi Victor and all, I use WinZip 11 myself, and, indeed, it is possible to at least extract rar files, not sure if you can create them though. Anyhow, with regards to viewing Zip archives, WinZip by default displays them in "all files" view, however WinZip can display them as if they were opened in Explorer. To change this, on the view menu, press enter on "files by folder (explorer style)". Hope this helps. Hi Arianna, I have never tried 7Zip, so I can't speak to it's ability, but from what I hear from members of the various lists I'm on, it works really well with Jaws, and is just as simple as WinZip. I have always had WinZip and WinRAR installed on my computer, so I've never bothered to use 7Zip. As for using the other two programs, I can't say what part of it is not accessible. Both programs are integrated into the operating system shell, so if you right click on any file, ZIP or RAR, in the applications menu, you have the options for WinZip and WinRAR. You can unzip the files, or zip them up, using that same menu, no muss, no fuss. Once Done, you can open the files, just like looking at them through an open window on your drive. The difference between WinZip and WinRAR is that WinRAR has two dots at the top of every window you view files from. Those familiar with DOS would know that entering on those two dots takes you back a directory. That brings me to the next major difference with WinZip and WinRAR. In WinZip, you can view the files in the zip archive, but you can't tell if they are in folders, or all separated, whereas, in WinRAR, you actually see that there are folders within the archive, and you can enter and go back through them like you were going through your My Documents folder. This is a very annoying problem, as I tend to create the folder, just in case the files are not in their own folders, cut and paste the archives into the newly created folder, then press the applications key, followed by the letter Z, and I arrow down to extract here. This essentially tells the program that you want the files extracted to the same directory you just copied the file into. Well, as is often the case, the files are in their own folder, so a newly created folder has just been extracted from the archive, which I have to go into, to cut and paste the files into the original folder I created, then I have to delete the newly created archive folder, and the original ZIP archive. Like I said, it's a pain in the buttocks. Smile. Suffice it to say, I know, when looking at the contents of a RAR archive, whether the files are in their own folder or not. Now, granted, I have never played, or had the patience to change any settings in WinZip, to know if there is a way to change this view, but I may have to, as WinZip 11 has the ability to extract and create RAR files, it's quite another thing to have two programs on my computer where I only need one. Anyway, I think it would benefit other list members if you reported back on how accessible the program is with your particular screen reader or magnifier, and how easy or hard it was for you to use. As David has both programs on his website, I would imagine that they are fairly accessible with Jaws, if that is what you use, but if you use Window Eyes, it may be even more so, or less accessible.
