Hello Are you trying to copy large files? Have had this problem also with some external drives in the past. The problem for me occurred when I tried to copy very large files. These transferred fine between internal drives but for some reason the external drives could not copy them back to PC. This seemed a little illogical as the files were copied onto external drives from the PC in the first place.
This was nothing to do with free disc space as temporarily cleared everything else on the drive and there was bags of room. Oddly it seemed a limitation in the size of files the drives could transfer back. In my case this was extremely annoying as I was trying to get a Norton Ghost image back onto an internal backup drive as Norton Ghost could not see my Fire wire drive in PC Dos. You could try using a file splitter to reduce the size of the files but in my case this made the Ghost image unusable when reconstituted the splits back into the original file. The lesson for me is that if you want to use Norton Ghost on an external drive it is safer to let Norton split the files into smaller DVD sized segments when this is offered in the backup drive wizard. I have not tried this but presumably these files will be transferable. Yoy could try a file splitter if files are very big - they seem to work with most things apart from Norton Ghost. Tonight I went through on my 2 external hd's and my main hd and deleted a lot of stuff from the drives stuff that I had downloaded and burnt on to cd like books etc. I am wondering then if after I did this why I am getting the message can't copy the files there is not enough free disk space. I am thinking of doing a disk defrag and check for errors but I am not sure weather that would make more space on the external drives? I have no files that are corrupted or anything like that. and also would it screw anything upif I was to do this. I look forward to hearing back what the list has to say on this topic. from Mich Verrier from New Liskeard Ontario Canada.
