Hmmm, I have not found an electronic manual.  May be you can find a PDF and
have a sighted person read it for you.  I'm guessing that speech is turned
off in the settings.  I think you need sight to view the screen while
dealing with settings.  I'm just guessing about this.

A friend from the United States bought the model DS30 for me in June of 2006
but I am yet to get any speech from it.  Is there a guide which one can
download to learn about the recorder?

    The only differences with the ds30, the ds 40 and the ds 50 are the
amount
    of data you can store on it, and the amount of recording time. the ds50
is
    the best as it has 1gb of memmory, for more detailed info check out a
