Hit control to temporarily stop Jaws talking until next key press. To turn off speech altogether press Insert V Then press the END key that is E N D key to go to speech synthesiser. Press space to turn speech off and then enter to return to your application without speech. Press Insert V and Jaws will start speaking again. This method will only work within an application and Jaws will start talking when you move away from this application.
