David Ferrin posted an e-mail indicating that there was no free version of Real
Player available. I must disagree. Real Player definitely does have a free
version which is easily downloaded from their web site at
http://www.real.com
It seems that some people prefer the Win Amp software and it is very well
supported. However, I have been a Real Player user for more than 10 years and
personally, I prefer it to Win Amp. For one thing, the display is in an
Explorer type format which is quite easily navigable with Jaws. However, it is
quite a large program and is filled with options that we as visually impaired
computer users can't appreciate. There is one annoying thing that Real Player
does. If there is a new version available, it tends to over-ride any of your
Library settings to give you a link which you have to click on to view the
latest information. I have something called Real Player Plus which gives me
all of the features available but does not require that you be a part of their
monthly service. There are scripts available and a special manual written
specifically for those of us who use screen readers.

I believe that the use of various types of software is a matter of personal
preference.
After all, what do we have to go on but our own personal experience and
information gathered from helpful lists like this one?

I don't understand the preference however for Win Amp, a program I find to be
cumbersome, difficult to operate and prone to continuous crashes and jams. If
there is some reasonable explanation for this overwhelming majority, I'd
appreciate an explanation of the position.
