HI Lisa.

I used MCAfee for a few years without any problems. I don't use it now
only because the program costs money and I can use AVG for free. Here's my
experience with Norton versus MCAfee. Norton caught a trojan horse on my
computer and didn't clean it. The trojan horse multiplied faster than I
could clean it and it destroyed data that I had worked my tail off
collecting and fixing up the way I wanted. Eventually my computer wouldn't
even boot up, so I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall everything.
In the process I lost a lot of unrecoverable data and had to start all over
again with the stuff that I was able to replace or recover. After that I
switched to MCAfee. At this time I was on a college network with all kinds
of nasties running around on it infecting the computers. A similar virus
found its way into my machine. McAfee caught it right away and then was
able to heal the infected files like a dream, so I was able to carry on
without any further difficulties.

In response to one comment that was made about McAfee, i.e. that McAfee
doesn't clean all viruses or all spyware, the fact is that no program does
that. The antivirus and antispyware manufacturers know that, and that's why
they continuously update their databases. As for whether McAfee has spyware
in it, I don't know. I do know that it did its job very well when I used
it, and I didn't have trouble with spyware at the time that was more than
the spyware trouble I usually have now. As long as your friend has more
than one antispyware solution running on her machine, she shouldn't have too
much trouble with it. I've helped you before, Lisa, and you know from
experience that my advice has been carefully thought out and helpful.
Believe me when I say that if I thought McAfee was bad software I would tell
you not to install it, but I don't believe it is. If I'm wrong, please
except my most contrite apologies for steering you and your friend wrong,
and the same apology goes to the rest of the list for any possible
misinformation.
