I think you need to give a bit more detail. If files have DRM copy protection then overwriting this may be difficult and contravene the license for distribution. However DRM players can have poor accessibility so it is not surprising people like us try to get this music into a more friendly format..
What are the file types? Wma? Rmx? Sometimes you can get files back into wav format and reencode them into mmp3. Sometimes you need a security key for files like rmx. Will these files play on anything at all? Can you burn them onto CD ? Some protected file types can do this and it may be possible to rip back into MP3 from this.
