Hi, Try Hibernate instead. The function can be switched on by going into Power Options in Control Manager. Hibernate will then appear in your shutdown list.
It is different to Standby in that it stores info about running applications in a file which it then runs when switching on again. Standby holds the running applications by battery power and if the battery is low presumably this may cause the sort of problem you have. I use Hibernate mode and it works very well.
