Hi Lisa,
It is recommended that you use the program's uninstaller, if it is
available,
before useing the add/remove programs utility in the control panel.
If you look in the programs list in the start menu, there should be a folder
there for the program in question.
Choose the uninstall selection.
If this is not available, use the add/remove programs in the control panel.
Once the program has been removed, you can look for remnants in the
following locations:
c:\
c:\Program Files
C:\Documents and Settings\?
question mark represents the names of users in this folder
Once in these folders, you will have to drill down a few levels
You will need to make sure that hidden files are shown.
application data
local settings
user data
and last but not least, the start menu, programs.
There will be entries left in the registry, but I don't recommend manually
editing the registry,
instead, you may wish to use a utility such as c-cleaner, or something
similar to remove orphaned keys and their values.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] removing programs

Hello everyone,
I'm going to remove my anti virus program, and install a different one.
After I remove it from add or remove programs in the control panel is there
any where else I need to look for remnants of the program that may be left
behind? I want to make sure it is totally gone before I install the new
anti virus program on my computer. I'm running windows XP home addition.
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated!
Take care,
Lisa
