Not sure if there are settings within windows, but (fortunately) for me my 
2.1 speakers (not sure of their output levels, but it's intense if it wants 
to be) fortunately have their own remote which allows me to specifically 
drop the bass levels (which can literally make the floor vibrate if it's 
up), but that would depend on your own speakers, which normally have 
bass/treble adjustment knobs on the control unit.
