Hi, will this work with Vista and the XP computers? I ask this because my
son and I have tried several times and it doesn't work.

Thanks,

David, it is recommended to changed the default of MSHOME to anything else.
Make sure that the same workgroup name is used on all computers in the
workgroup. All computers need to have file sharing enabled. Now with that
said, you may not be able to access anything on your other computer if there
is nothing shared on that computer. Windows XP allows either simple or
advanced file sharing. Either one will work but the same scenario must be
used on all computers in the workgroup. Lets take a really simple example
you have a workgroup with two computers one named compOe and the other named
compTwo. We are going to assume file sharing is enabled on both computers
and that firewalls on both computers are configured to allow this (obviously
your roter's firewall has nothing to do with this since all traffic is only
on your LAN). Comptwo has a folder named Pictures which you would like to
access from CompOne. You would go into the properties of the Pictures folder
on Comptwo and share it with a name of "Pics". You can now access that
folder from Compone by typing in "\\comptwo\pics" into the run dialog and
use the proper credentials (username and password). Here is the kicker, if
the account in which you are using its credentials does not have a password
set up on Comptwo then you must configure Comptwo's group policies to allow
logging on with a null password. For some reason Microsoft has remote
logging on with null passwords disabled by default in XP SP2 and later.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] setting up a home network

So here's the deal, first of all this system is running XP home and Patty
has XP pro on her system. I can get the MS home deal working on her system
but no matter what I do it simply won't work on mine. I've done the network
setup wizard and worked with Rick who has done this on his systems for
several years. This morning I went down through the list of services
comparing in an attempt to match them where possible without any success so
far. When ever I get down to the MS home icon and try opening it up it just
will not allow me to access anything beyond that point. So folks what am I
missing? Frankly at this point it's above my pay grade as the saying goes.
