I found that trying to calculate numbers of days between dates only 
works with the date function. After you set up the date, you can 
format it as mm.dd.yyyy or any other format that you want to display 
the date on the spread sheet.

Using the typical date entry such as 7/7 with will give you something 
like this in the unformatted display: 7-Jul. Entering the date this 
way I don't think that you can calculate the number of days between dates.
