Hello Lino,

unless the software is completely accessible, the company has no choice but 
to send out a tech to install it and configure it for no charge for you.

As you are not able to see any lights on the modem/router they are going to 
provide you, you cannot, in good faith tell if the service is working and 
plugged in correctly.

This falls on their responsibility to ensure that the service is working 
properly, although not necessarily on the computer, they do have to make 
sure that any equipment they provide you is working to it's fullest 
capability.

I think you'll find this is the case with most ISP companies that provide 
this service.

In any case, if you're simply getting the service they are providing, and 
you are not getting any extras from them, there shouldn't be any software to 
install, and it should simply be a plug and play service.

Oh, I almost forgot, if you installed software from your last ISP, then the 
software may have made it impossible to let your computer automatically 
configure itself to connect to the internet, as any settings required should 
be automatic.

You may want to uninstall any previous software that you had installed with 
your last ISP.
