It sounds like you will be using a DSL broadband connection. If this is the 
case then your DSL modem will plug into any one of the filters and use the 
slot marked modem. If the phone system in the UK is like that of here in the 
States, the filters are provided to remove the static that you would here in 
your phones when DSL service is installed. The filters have both a 'phone' 
and a 'modem' slot so they act as splitters which would allow a phone and a 
modem to share the same connection. The modem itself does not need a filter, 
only the phones.
