Category: Keyboard

Question:

If I want to type one-handed, can I make the INSERT Key on the num pad work
as a StickyKey?

Answer:

The Microsoft Accessibility tool, StickyKeys, works well for the functions
using SHIFT,CTRL, WINDOWS Key, and ALT. However, the primary JAWS modifier
key,

INSERT, is not affected by StickyKeys.

However, you can do the following to make it work as a StickyKey:

list of 6 items

1. Press INSERT+F2 and choose Configuration Manager.

2. Load the Default File (Default.jcf) by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+D.

3. From the Set Options menu, choose User Options.

4. Select the Insert Key Mode check box. You can press INSERT+F1 for a
description of this option. When you are finished reading, press ESC to
close the

virtual viewer.

5. Choose the Close button.

6. Press ALT+F4 to close Configuration Manager. Choose Yes when asked to
save your changes.

list end

Tip: When using StickyKeys, if JAWS continues to announce the WINDOWS Key
even after issuing the original WINDOWS Key command (such as WINDOWS Key+M),
you

can correct this by doing the following:

list of 4 items

1. Go to the Control Panel and choose Accessibility Options.

2. On the Keyboard tab, under StickyKeys, choose the Settings button.

3. Clear the Press Modifier Key Twice to Lock check box and choose OK.

4. Choose OK to close the dialog box.

list end

Now, after using a WINDOWS Key command, press the WINDOWS Key twice to end
the sequential key presses. You should hear the down tone sound. Then, press

the keys you want.
