The inconsistency is driving me crazy! I know that XP forces you to type in
the Workgroup name for your network in upper case letters and it always seems
to be displayed in upper case. However, on our XP computer we typed the
computer name as "Kira", with only the K in upper case. When I look at the
network folder in Vista, it shows up just as typed. when setting up a printer
it appears in all upper case! Conversely, I typed the printer share name in
all upper case letters on the XP desktop as "HP". If I look at the properties
of the printer from the Vista laptop the share name appears correctly in upper
case. The confusing thing is that the Vista computer creates the printer's
path as "\\KIRA\hp"! Almost entirely different and reverse from what I typed
on the other computer!

Normally,I would not care what XP or Vista does with these internal
inconsistencies. In my case,I was told by HP that I needed to set up my print
driver on the Vista laptop by creating a local printer and then go back and
create a new port on the port page of the printer's properties dialog as the
full network pathname of the printer.

Does anyone know what XP and Vista expect in the pathname? What conventions
should I follow? Without getting this right nothing seems to print and no
error messages are displayed!
