Hi Aiden, whoa ... isn't that a broad based question. I will try to help
as much as possible with the understanding that it can literally take
years of study to be proficient in network architecture and operation.
The first questions you will need to ask yourself are what role(s) will
the server perform, some examples:
Domain controller
DHCP server
DNS Server
WINS server
File server
Web server
Streaming audio server
Terminal server
Virtual machine server
Exchange server
RIS Server
SQL server
RAS server
Etc...
The next question is how large of an organization will it support and in
what capacity (domain or workgroup). Will all clients be on a LAN or
will there be remote clients over a WAN using a RAS or VPN connection?
If you give me some more detailed specifics about your environment and
how you will use your server I can give you some further help on
gettings things working.
Frank Ventura, MCP

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Running a windows 2003 server

Frank,

Just the person. i've been wanting to run a windows 2003 server for a
while
now. How do you go about accessing the main machine to use it as an
actual
server, and what tips could you give to someone who wants to run one?

Aiden
