I am going to try to answer your questions in order.
The problem with the DVD drive could be a bad disk. If not, make sure
that it is enabled under hardware settings in the control panel.'
Second, the internet link is broken because it doesn't have an
associated program. That's my guess anyway. Did your friend have a
browser that got uninstalled before? Try going to set program access and
defaults and set the default browser to internet explorer. You could
also go into the internet explorer tools options and set it as default
there.
