Subject: [Blind-Computing] external harddrive very slow

Hello, I have a 300 GB external hard drive that I use for storing
music
CD's and audio books. A few days ago the drive became very slow to
open,
taking about four or five minutes to open. And once it is open, if I
open a
folder to get a list of songs in that folder, and then try to return
back to
the full list of folders it takes several minutes to return.

I have run "disc cleanup" and "defragmenter". I have about 165 MB free
of
the 300 MB left free.

I have also run disc cleanup and defragged my C drive. I tried
unplugging
the cpu and external drive from power overnight.

And my external drive still runs slow, however my cpu is running fine.

Does anyone know what might be causing my problem or what else I might
try
to get my external drive to run like normal?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve Crews
