This is a tough ask for someone with visual impairment.
If you really have to do this then I would suggest one of the two following
ideas.

1. Use a Turtle Graphic drawing program. These are based on the old Logo
Programming language and work by inputting commands for a *turtle* to move
around the screen. Commands include things like fd 50 which means go
forward 50, pd which means pen down. There are other commands to move the
Turtle around the screen and draw.
These programs were used in the past to teach children how to program .
Effectively to make a drawing you have to write a program. So to draw a
square you would say Pen down, forward 60 then right turn 90 to represent
90 degree right turn forward 60 right turn 90 again and so on. This Task
would be challenging as you would be learning a computing language and also
having to visualise everything conceptually rather than with your eyes.
Still I suppose this is one way of a visually impaired person drawing on a
PC. Once you run your program you could capture the resulting screenshot
using I think alt plus print screen. Certainly a lot of work to do it this
way.

I have not used Logo for years but a search on Google showed that Turtle
Graphics programs are still around. You could investigate for example this
free version
http://www.leeds.ac.uk/jcom/turtle/turtlepascal.htm

2. However if I was in danger of losing my life unless I did this I would
initially work with pen and paper.
You would need a good supply of sticky bumps - available from the RNIB,
pen, a set square and a broad ruler. Use bumps to mark off inches or
centimetres along the ruler and set square. Most have a tactile edge but
the bumps will be easier to feel.

Feel and align yourself to the paper. Start your drawing placing a sticky
bump at the end of every line you create in your drawing. Use these bumps
to get a sense of and develop your drawing. If necessary remove bumps at the
end. If you are going to do this then use card to draw on to prevent tearing
the paper. Scan your resulting drawing into a good freeware graphics program
like Irfanview where you can apply some affects if you want with the
keyboard. I hope this meets your study rules.

Remember that in the UK since 2003 it is illegal for educational
establishments to discriminate against its students on grounds of
disability. Providing you have declared your visual impairment your
educational institution is legally obliged to assess your needs and make any
reasonable adjustments for you to complete your studies. This can include
the use of sighted help even in exam situations. The general rule is that
sighted help has to work to your instructions and cannot initiate in an
exam situation.

David Griffith

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Accessible Imaging Software

Hi all, for one of my assignments I've got to create a website all about a
castle I've been assigned to. One of the requirements is to display images
as part of the content, otherwise I'll fail. Does anyone know of any
software that will allow me to at least draw basic shapes to make up an
image, using the keyboard? I don't mind if it's free or commercial, so long
as it works with JAWS 9/10, works under Vista Home Premium and is accessible
enough that I can draw basic images. I'm not expected to resize them of
course, not without sighted help anyway, just something so I can produce
images. Thanks in advance for the help that I need to pass this module.
