Hi Rob,
It sounds like you want Jaws to be in the system tray.
Do the following:
From the Jaws application window, go to the options menu,
then basics, and tab until you come to:
run Jaws from the system tray, checkbox
spacebar to check the box, and then press enter to close the dialogue.
Now, re-boot your computer , and then Jaws will appear in the system tray,
and after closing an application, the focus should return to the desktop.
