Apart from actually browsing for the file, you'll initially be in the
recommended group of applications, but if you move down, you'll come to a
list of almost all installed applications that reckon they can handle the
file type.
I also sometimes use first letter navigation in this list.
Apart from that, yes, after you find what you want in the list, or add it
yourself, check the option to always use the choice, and tab to Ok, and hit
space.
Stay well

In the dialogue where the list is, did you press the browse button and
find from the open dialogue the hjpad.exe? It's in the program files and
the folder of freedom scientific and jaws. You must find it from the
dialogue. After you press the open button, you must check "always use the
selected program to open this kind of files" and then ok button.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Assigning a program to open a text file.
Hi
For some reason my computer switched from using HjPad from freedom
scientific to WordPad to open text files on my computer. I want to switch
it back to HjPad. How do I do this?
So far, I tried locating a text file and then pressed the
applications key. On the menu that appears there is an option to reassign
the file to another program. HjPad is not in the list of programs to
choose from. No matter what I do I can not get HjPad.exe added to this
list. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you for your help.
God bless,
Mark
