I don't see a way to do this in XP from the control panel/power options.
Only when pressing a button on your computer to go to stand by. It's on a
desktop machine. If you use laptop, look there, it's different I think. But
it seems you've got your answer on the blindtech list.

Just go to the start menu, arrow up to turn off, then find the stand by
button (in my case the focus is on it, because it's the first one) and
space on it.
By the way I never use it.
