Given the struggle you are having with Win Media Player I cannot help wondering if you would just be better off using a good accessible program like Cdex which works very well with Jaws to rip CDs. There are lots of tutorials around on Cdex. Cdex can automatically create playlists. Other good simple utilities available from the Jaws User Home Page Programs link include MP3Tag which has a very simple interface for editing tags with Jaws. I also use MP3 Gain to increase or decrease the volume of mp3 files. This again works very easily with Jaws.
Of course the resulting edited MP3 files will all play just fine in Windows Media Player though WinAmp probably has the greatest level of Jaws support if you really want to dig into features. Personally I find the Media Player classic which comes with Real Alternative to be an easier and more straightforward player than window Media Player. I cannot swear that any of these programs work under Vista though.
