Thanks, that worked fine. If I lose my disk or maybe just one mail folder, do I just copy the folder back? Or does it need extra steps to recover?

Interestingly, I tried to manually copy my "local folder" for Windows Mail to another computer on our network and then to a DVD. Both attempts failed. Maybe Karen's Replicator found a rare moment when Windows Mail was closed?

All you need to do is focus it on the folder where those files are located as you source in the program.

I have been using and depending on Karen's Replicator for a while now. It works great! Is there a way to set it up to backup my email message folders in Windows Mail? I have not compared it to the Windows Vista feature for backing up folders. Is this new?

There are 2 types of back up. Ideally you should do both kinds.

1. A disk image back up. Ideally you should do this when your PC is working at its best, perhaps soon after windows has been installed and you have all the software and drivers you need loaded. A disk imaging program will take a snapshot of the PC whilst it is working well. If at any time you get into
trouble on your PC you can restore this image but it will overwrite
everything on your C Drive and literally reproduce an exact copy of your system on the day the image was made. This kind of restore has to happen outside of Windows and so sighted help is often needed. Norton Ghost is a
famous program which does this and I believe the owner of the Jaws User
list has identified an accessible option with a program called Image for
Windows. I believe that he has posted instructions on how to use this
program which I think relies on backing up through DVDS . Apparently it is
possible to follow instructions so that you can complete this process
without sighted help.
2. The drawback with this process is that you lose any recent emails data or other files written on the C Drive after the image was taken. You should also then back up your data to a separate drive using a data backup tool. I
use Karen's Replicator which I consider to be the best tool I have come
across. This program can be got from the Jaws User Programs page and is
simple to set up. I would suggest you download it and have a try at using it. If you have any problems then post here and I am sure that you will be
able to get some help.

Does anyone know how to back up files or know of a good resource that can
walk me through the back-up process? I feel silly not knowing how to do
this since I've owned a computer for over a decade, but I honestly have
never learned how.

Thanks,
