I would suggest that you first try to repair and then re-install if that does not work. Jaws from memory gives the repair option if you run the Jaws setup again.
In general I think it is good to have a back up screen reader for those occasions that Jaws may be giving trouble. I use the free NVDA program for this purpose. If for any reason you are having to work outside of jaws you can use NVDA to help you through.
