Hi Wes,

You might want to look into renting a wireless router from your ISP, as they
tend to have them for rent for a few dollars a month, and the best part is,
they will usually come over and configure it for you if you tell them you're
blind.

They should not charge you for this service as you require sight to see the
lights on the router's face to see if it's receiving a signal and all that
stuff.

Once you do this, you don't have to have the desktop turned on all the time
to be connected to the internet.

I think this is your only option, as it will allow you to access the
internet from anywhere in your home using your new laptops.

On the other front, if you actually have a router, the set up should be that
the modem is connected to the cable or telephone line coming into the house,
and the modem is connected to the router through a line in jack.

Once it's connected, you should have a cable connected to the router leading
to the computer.

If it's done this way, you don't need to have the desktop computer turned on
to access the internet, and all you have to do is connect your laptops
hardwired to the router to access the internet.

I'm sure someone on the list will give you the steps involved in connecting
the laptop so it simply connects automatically once the wire is connected to
the port.
