It should start on general on the tree structure, and just tab until you hear an option relating to checking for updates at startup, hit space to clear it, and tab to close, and hit space. Think there's also a hotkey to automatically go into that preferences dialogue, and think it's something like either Ctrl + P or Alt + P, but can't remember off hand.
