I believe the compatibility view allows you to view a web page that may be
formatted to better work on older versions of Internet Explorer.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Compatibility view in IE 8

Hi All,

Would someone please explain what the Compatibility View Option in IE 8
does?  If there are preferred settings for compatibility view using
Jaws/screen readers, what would they be?  All advice will be greatly
 appreciated.  Thanks much, take care.
 Mike
