That happened to me with the beta version of JAWS 10.0. I never got the issure resolved until I got the full version. I'm not quite sure what to tell you as far as a solution other than reinstalling it, but I can tell you that you aren't alone. I am also running XP Pro.

What seems to be happening with me is that once run the Jaws startup wizard and set all the settings per my use and or liking then when either log off my windows xp pro Jaws will default back to the default settings and the speech is very slow at the default setting that it is at when first install Jaws as was when first installed. Then the startup wizard begins all over again. If don't have to log off or restart the computer things are fine; but, once do have to restart or log off the computer then loose all the settings previously set during the startup wizard and have to begin again. If I only install and use the Jaws 10.0installation cd that shipped when Jaws came out things work just fine; but, when upgrade to Jaws 10.0.1142 that's when things seem to go nuts. So just thought would throw this out to see if anyone had any suggestions or had run into the problem too. I've even completely uninstall Jaws and started all over again with the sma Jaws 10.0 cd that was shipped and again things work fine as long as don't install the upgrade. Thanks.
